ABOUT SSCS: SSCS is a leading charitable social service provider in BC’s Sea to Sky Corridor, established in 1978. We provide high quality programs to enhance the lives of residents at every age and stage of life. Our programs include affordable housing, early childhood care and education, youth services, mental health services, senior’s services, community living, homeless outreach, life skills, and a Food Bank. We help create healthy, connected, and diverse communities where everyone can grow, develop, and lead meaningful lives. The Facilitator: plans and provides a stimulating play and learning environment for children. is responsible in creating a positive, enriching environment for parents/caregivers and children. delivers the StrongStart program and ensures that the goals and objectives of the program are met. Qualifications: 1. Early Childhood Education Certificate; 2. One year recent related experience; 3. Food Safe Certificate. Schedule and Hours: 12 hours per week Tuesday – Thursday 9am – 1pm Job Skills and Abilities: 1. Good written and verbal communication skills. 2. Demonstrated ability to teach skills and work effectively with others as well as work independently. 3. Effective interpersonal communications skills. 4. Knowledge of Parenting Education and community resources. 5. Demonstrated ability to facilitate groups. Responsibilities: 1. Plans, carries out and evaluates developmentally appropriate activities and experiences for children using modelling, observing, questioning, demonstrating and reinforcing techniques. Develops daily program schedules that include indoor/outdoor, active/quiet and individual and group activities. 2. Identifies the abilities, interests and needs of children and develops individualized and group curriculum based on these. Recommends referrals or additional services or work in consultation with professionals such as behavioural therapists, occupational therapists and speech language pathologists. 3. Ensures a healthy and safe environment in which the children can interact. Identifies and removes potential hazards. 4. Communicates with families about children’s growth and development. Confers with parents with regard to unusual or problematic issues. 5. Encourages parent involvement program and works with parents by requesting input, maintaining communication, offering support to strategize their vision of the StrongStart program. 6. Set up program materials for group, keep equipment and rooms clean and in good order. 7. Interact with the children and parents in a manner that clearly conveys acceptance and understanding. 8. Model appropriate communication and disciplinary strategies with children. 9. Attend staff meetings, meet with the Director/Manager and update on program issues, as required. 10. Maintains related records and statistics and produces reports as required. 11. Purchase program supplies and healthy foods for snacks.
