Contact: Hiring Committee Beaches Cooperative Playschool BCP is a non-profit, community centered, parent-run co-operative. The primary purpose of the playschool is to provide a safe, stimulating learning environment that respects the close parent/child bond. The children are able to learn through play as they are offered a wide variety of age-appropriate stimulating opportunities with each child free to develop at their own pace. At BCP, we offer a warm, caring environment for children; where parents are encouraged to be part of their schooling experience (when COVID restrictions allow). We’re looking for a teacher with a sunny and out-going personality, who enjoys working in an upbeat, fast-paced atmosphere. We’re looking for someone who works well on a team, who is able to take initiative, and who is also able to take direction when required. This job is perfect for someone who is looking for more experience and is keen to learn. While this is a part-time position for mornings only, there will be opportunities to work afternoon shifts from time to time. The playschool teacher is a Registered Early Childhood Educator responsible for assisting in program development and implementation for a class of children ranging from 18 months to 5 years old. The teacher supports the school’s Supervising Teacher, as well as an executive board made up of parent volunteers. Job duties include various programming and child-related duties, as well as performing daily health, safety and cleaning protocols. We follow an emergent curriculum model and utilize the ELECT developmental framework for the age groups presented. Education and Certificates Required -Early Childhood Education Diploma, Registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators -Clear Medical assessment and TB Test -Full COVID-19 vaccination or proof of medical exemption -Valid Police Reference and Vulnerable Sector Check -Valid Standard First Aid and Infant Child CPR-Level 3 (16 hour course) -Valid Safe Food Handler certificate -An understanding of Ontario child care legislation and standards, including the Child Care and Early Years Act 2014 and Toronto Public Health and Licensing Regulations as well as an understanding of the required COVID protocols for the child care setting. -3 years experience preferred Additional Core Competencies -Strong programming skills -Familiar with ELECT principles and "How Does Learning Happen?” - Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years -Working knowledge of AQI standards -Excellent behaviour management and support skills, including problem solving, positive reinforcement and redirection strategies, implemented in a gentle and caring manner -The ability to plan and implement a well-rounded program that meets the needs of the children and their families -Strong interpersonal skills and good English verbal communication skills -Ability to take initiative
