Responsible for assisting in program development for a class of children ranging from 18 months to 5 years old. The teacher supports the school’s Supervising Teacher, as well as an executive board made up of parent volunteers. Child Related Duties: Execution of a high quality preschool program following an emergent curriculum model and utilizing the ELECT developmental framework for the age groups presented The teacher is expected to be familiar with and adhere to, when applicable, the Behavioural Management Policy and Procedures in the BCP policy manual The teachers should work together to bring any behaviour management concerns to the executive in a timely manner The teacher is expected to be familiar with and adhere to the Playground Policy Inspect playground daily for safety and set up before the children arrive Maintain safety standard within school and know serious occurrence procedures Develop and maintain a nurturing relationship with each child Promote social skill development through play Set up and tidy up equipment each day - indoor and outdoor, based on weekly curriculum, goals and children’s interests Work with appropriate committees and participate on committees to benefit the program, (i.e. liaise with parents to assist with party days and special events, liaise with Equipment Chair regarding equipment maintenance or purchase, provide information to Parent-Teacher Liaison) Provision of periodic reports, verbal not written or formal, on the progress of each child: for the parents, and the school’s progress as a whole: to the Executive as requested Do evaluations of children through ongoing observation and documentation, and in collaboration with other teachers, to monitor interests, development and areas of concern Submit program plans to Supervisor of Programming in a timely manner Create and update class displays, as per AQI recommendations Daily Teacher Duties: Maintain attendance records and other BCP records Check telephone messages Run tap water for 10 minutes to flush out lead Open and close school on a daily basis (including lock/unlock ramp and main doors, turn on chimes on classroom door) Mix bleach solution Organize toys that have been washed by committee and return them to their regular location Empty the garbage and recycling daily Create shopping list to be submitted to BCP Shopper once a month Other duties as directed by Public Health, the Ministry of Education, Child Services or the Executive Committee Periodic Teacher Duties: Practice fire drills, maintain record and understand record keeping Keep anecdotal report, post a notice of any communicable diseases and record all significant incidents in health and injury book Record and maintain up to date child illness information in their file Check broken/fixed toys for safety as needed Organize and rotate books according to children’s interests/programs and seasons Clean and Organize playground shed seasonally Attend four BCP General meetings per school year and 1 staff meeting per week Complete the behaviour management forms annually for the school’s other teachers Order and keep inventory of supplies and equipment Maintain tidiness and organization of the equipment cupboard and classroom shelves Order new equipment in consultation with Equipment Head Encouraged to attend workshops and conferences to make up for P.A. Days. In March the teachers shall submit a list of recommended purchases (supplies, equipment) and program suggestions (requiring funds) to the Executive and these recommendations shall be considered when the budget is being set for the following year. The teachers should also maintain a wish list throughout the year Liaise with Teacher Replacement Coordinator to cover expected absences for personal days, professional development and meetings Shared Duties (with other staff): Ensure washroom is tidy and clean at the end of each class Ensure kitchen area is tidy and clean at the end of each class Ensure classroom is a healthy and safe environment Ensure floor is swept and mopped at the end of each class
