Early Childhood Educator in Grimsby, Ontario

I currently work in a school-age child care centre The Daycare Centre, \'A Special Place\' in Beamsville Ontario, with children ages 4-12, and have been working here for 2 years. I am responsible for caring for children in indoor and outdoor environments, preparing and serving food, supporting transitions as well as health and safety routines, and program planning.\r\n\r\nI had placement experience in a toddler classroom at Notre Dame YMCA from September to December of 2015, and am currently placed at Charles R. Beaudoin Public School of the Halton District School Board as part of the FDELK program. In my toddler placement I gained experience planning activities that fit into the YMCA playing-to-learn curriculum, and that were based on the children\'s interests. I helped ECE\'s in the room with transitions, washroom routines, nap time routines, and meal time. \r\nIn my kindergarten placement I have been planning activities for the children based on their interests and the FDELK program, providing open ended materials that support play-based learning. \r\n\r\nIn each of these environments I work to respond to children\'s cues appropriately, ensuring that I provide materials and planning that aid in the holistic development of each child. I do not have a great deal of experience working with children with special needs. However, I have experience with adults with special needs, as I worked as a Peer Assistant in the \'Services for Students with Disabilities\' at Brock University.\r\n\r\nBeyond this, I work with one child who has special needs in my Kindergarten classroom.
