Early Childhood Educator in North York, Ontario

I'm an
Individual
After two years of my studies in the area of early childhood education at Capilano University and one and half year work experience at Simon Fraser’s University Child Care Centre, I had the opportunity to learn that each child is a unique and special in their own way of learning and experiencing the world around them. Therefore, every aspect of their development is equally important and children have the right to quality early childhood education. For me it is important that children feel welcome not only in their families, but also among their extended families like their friends, other children in child care centers, their educators and other people in their communities. \r\n\r\nThrough my practicum and work experiences, I have learned that children have various qualities, which always inspired me and made my work so enjoyable and satisfying for me as a teacher. The inspiration I got from children and my studies helped me recognize how adults create an image of a child based on their stereotypical beliefs and how much these stereotypes about children is damaging to the growth of children and the interaction between adults and children. During my observation and engagement with the children that I have worked with, I have learned that children differ in their strengths and capabilities. Every child’s life is different from the other and it is the adults’ responsibility to educate themselves about children rather than making stereotypes about them due to their lack of understanding of children. As adults, it is our responsibility to interact with children in a way to help them become strong, confident and positive human beings. Through my education and work experience, I recognized and understood this notion about children and how adults impacts children. After completing my \"special needs\" practicum and my school traning, I learned that \"special needs\" children are very important and they deserve respect, a high quality of life, supportive education and meaning ful relationship in the society that we all live together. As an early childhood educator, I do not feel comfortable to single out children with a different name since I understand that all children are unique on their own ways of learning and development. I believe as human being our responsibility is to include these children in our education system. What I mean do not separate them from other children and teach our children that as human being we are not different but we are different in our individual potential and development. I strongly believe that even though I write pages to describe my feeling but it is not enough to describe my experience about this topic. I realized that this topic is very important and sensitive.
