Early Childhood Educator in Edmonton, Alberta

My name is Ngozi Atiti; I studied in CDI College where I got my level 2 in Early Childhood Education. I am looking for a child centered learning environment where I can encourage and also learn the use of open-ended art materials to create room for creativity and originality. I focus on a child as a resourceful individual with unique skills and abilities; I listen to their opinions and respect their views. I meet every child at his/her level of ability by supporting them where they need help and scaffold where a new skill or knowledge is introduced. This is my philosophy. Through observation on children especially during their play, I observed that Play provides opportunities for children to learn as they discover, create, improvise and imagine. When children play with other children they create social groups, test out ideas, challenge each other’s thinking and build new understandings. Play provides a supportive environment where children can ask questions, solve problems and engage in critical thinking. Play can expand children’s thinking and enhance their desire to know and to learn. In these ways play can promote positive dispositions towards learning, I take teaching opportunities that come out from their play (emergent learning); I use it to support learning. I also take cues from their behaviour to scaffold learning. I also encourage child-centered opportunities through provocation and the use of open-ended questions; I wonder questions that will provoke thinking out –of- the- box responses I will be grateful if am giving the opportunity to express my knowledge with the children in your center.
