I recently completed the Early Childhood Education Diploma program at Mothercraft College and received certification in October 2015. During the program I took courses and had practical training, which has enabled me to become a better educator. In Pakistan, I taught at Fair Field Elementary School for 5 years. I am currently employed at Songbirds Montessori School at the Whitby location. I am responsible for 5 students in the toddler classroom and I work independently to ensure the safety and well-being of each child. In my classroom, I will cultivate a safe, inclusive, and collaborative learning environment, in which students can develop into resilient learners. In this environment students will be open, willing, and feel safe enough to engage in risk-taking, voice their opinions, and test their abilities. I believe that the foundation of healthy development and well-being are caring relationships. Such relationships need to be based on mutual respect and trust. This will enable students to feel confident that I am invested in them as human beings, and dedicated to their learning and success. When mutual respect and trust is developed, students will feel confident in communicating their needs, goals, and expectations for learning. Every academic and professional experience I have been blessed with has further consolidated my belief that teaching is my passion and purpose. I truly believe that as an educator, I need to model the behaviours and skills that I envision for my students. This means modeling respect, enjoyment in learning, risk-taking, maintaining a positive attitude, and most importantly resiliency.
