Early Childhood Educator Job in Surrey, British Columbia

Early Childhood Educators are responsible for planning and implementing a program providing children with a developmentally appropriate, safe and healthy environment. The program follows all relevant provincial laws and regulations and follows all relevant Province of BC policies and procedures and Licensing regulations Core Competencies and Responsibilities Program: Activities, learning experiences, and general classroom conduct are planned with developmental appropriateness in mind Establishes routines and smooth transition times Provides for active physical play including both indoor and outdoor active play Physical Environment Collaborates with other team members to design and maintain a developmentally appropriate, child focused room arrangement Creates a warm, pleasant and inviting atmosphere Health and Safety Maintains clean and healthy environment by following cleaning schedule Follows procedure for the administration of medication Releases children only to authorized people Remains calm during drills and emergency evacuations Ensures that children are supervised at all times and in accordance with Department of Community Services regulations Communication /Professionalism Participates as a team member by keeping Coordinator informed of classroom activities Advances knowledge through education, courses, workshops, seminars and readings. Parents & Children Maintains a professional relationship with parents Acts as a resource for parents according to individual capabilities and qualifications Keeps parents informed of their childs experiences in the Centre through daily contact, daily information sheets (Infants and Toddlers) and through incident reports Work Conditions Caring for children is physically and mentally demanding Work requires heavy physical effort for lifting, bending, stooping, carrying and reaching overhead Work may require long periods of standing or walking Work requires dealing with emotionally volatile situations Shifts are rotating and dependent upon the needs of the program Shifts may extend depending upon the needs of the program (i.e., ratio)
