Early Childhood Educator in Thornhill, Ontario

Hi, my name is Julie. I have an ECE diploma and am a member of the College of Early Childhood Educators. I many years experience working with young children. Upon graduating from Seneca College I spent several years working in various daycare settings, mostly with infants. After having my own two children, I decided to stay home and successfully ran a home daycare for 3 years. When my own children started school I found myself looking for a new experience. My goal was to continue on and obtain my teaching degree. I returned to school and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at York University. At this time, I decided to return to work and apply to teacher's college at a later date. To gain experience I volunteered part-time in a kindergarten class within the TCDSB. I really enjoyed this experience and realized I really wanted to be a kindergarten teacher. I applied for a paid position as a preschool teacher in a small, private school. Within a year, I was promoted to a head teacher position in a kindergarten classroom. Eventually I would also be promoted to teaching a grade one class. Although I enjoyed this experience as well I realized I had enjoyed my time as a kindergarten teacher far more. So I returned to the kindergarten classroom. I have been teaching at this small, private school for the past 15 years. I have continued to spend time in the preschool room, relieving the current ECE for daily breaks and other absences.
