Early Childhood Educator in Toronto, Ontario

I'm an
As an Early Childhood Educator I have worked in both a junior preschool, and infant classroom. As a teacher in the junior preschool classroom and infant classroom, I have worked with children between the ages of 5months-3 years of age. As a teacher, I have planned and implemented activities as well as performed duties such as toileting routines, meal preparations, played and monitor children in daily activities as well as communicated with staff and parents about children’s daily activities. While attending Seneca College, I have also done several placements at childcare centers, Elementary schools and nursery schools. My first placement was at a nursery school where I worked with children between the ages of 2-5 years for four months. Followed by the nursery school I was placed at a Catholic Elementary School where I did the after school program. At this placement I worked with children between the ages of 4-12 years and was also there for a span of four months. I also did placement at a childcare center in the junior and senior toddler room where I worked with children between the ages of 18months- 2 years of age. My last placement was at a public elementary school in Woodbridge in a junior and senior kindergarten classroom where I worked alongside a kindergarten teacher and with children between the ages of 4-6 years old. In all of my placements, I was responsible for planning and implementing age appropriate activities in all areas of development on a weekly basis. I would also do daily observations and documentations of children’s play, behaviors, strengths, and weakness and would set goal accordingly. Prior to attending Seneca College I had also done volunteering at a homework club in Mississauga as a tutor where I worked with children between the ages of 4-13. Also prior to attending Seneca I was placed at a elementary school in Brampton where I was working in a grade three classroom as a teacher assistant. My experience working with special need students have been in the preschool classroom I worked in as well as my field placement within the kindergarten room. I have worked with two children who were diagnosed with autism as well as a student who was struggling with an eating disorder. One of the children I worked with who was diagnosed with autism was three years old and was a part of my preschool classroom while working as an ECE. He had a severe case of autism and required a more monitoring, attention and nurturing and as an ECE in the classroom it was my job to provide him with the best care. During my field placement in the kindergarten room there was a child who had just been diagnosed with a mild case of autism. He would have trouble sitting still, focusing his attention and following daily routines. Being the student teacher, I assisted in helping the kindergarten teacher and the EA care for and provide a great learning experience for this child. The other student I worker with was also a part of my junior preschool classroom and was three years old. He had trouble consuming full nutritious meals and would only eat cereals for infants and sugary sweets. As an ECE it was my job to insure that the child was eating regularly, monitor as well as document his daily activity and eating schedules.
