Early Childhood Educator in Toronto, Ontario

As a recent graduate of the Child and Youth Worker program at George Brown College, I have acquired thorough skills of Child and Youth Worker methods. Through the program, I also improved my team work abilities with clients and fellow staff, while developing positive therapeutic relationships with the youth and children I work with.\r\n\r\nI am involved with volunteer organizations such as The Peer Project and On Your Mark Tutoring, where I am responsible for mentoring, guiding, and supporting matched \"at-risk\" youths. I also have three placement experiences varying from elementary, high school, and residential settings.\r\n\r\nMy first year placement was completed at St.Fidelis Catholic School with a grade one class. My role here was to assist with classroom expectations and student behavioral management. My second year placement was at James Cardinal McGuigan as a Child and Youth Worker.\r\nMcGuigan allowed me to develop a positive therapeutic relationship with newcomer and first generation Canadian youth in the Jane and Finch Corridor. I supervised many school trips and was part of an urban community. James Cardinal McGuigan gave me insight to working with marginalized youth.\r\n\r\nMy final placement was with LOFT Community Services, as a Residential Support Worker at Ingles Housing and Supports. Ingles House assists young women with addiction recovery and\r\nmental health support. At Ingles, I was exposed to a residential setting where I exercised my counseling skills, group dynamic abilities, and participated in Eating Disorder workshops. I created and facilitated life skills including International Womens Day Celebrations, Budgeting, Self Esteem and Care. Ingles allowed me to branch out into residential settings, which is essential for working with various populations of youth.\r\n\r\nI am always looking to acquire new skills and build on those which I possess. I always strive to build therapeutic relationships with youth and am committed to being an agent of change. I have some experience working with children and youth with Autism Spectrum and Down Syndrome Spectrum Disorders. I am willing to learn and broaden my experiences.
