Early Childhood Educator in New Westminster, British Columbia

I have always enjoyed being around children and the time I have been spending with them since I started my study to become a certified ECE has been such an amazing experience. What I love about working as an ECE is that I can be in the lives of children. I can see them gaining new experiences, new skills, and learning new things, and I like that I can provide them with environment, opportunities and some help to do so in their process of growing up. I love doing hands-on activities with them, getting them participated, and seeing them getting excited. I did my two practicums at two very different kinds of centres, the first one at a multi-age family daycare and the second one at a group daycare. During each practicum, I observed the children at the centres to discover their interests, and implemented activities (art, social, math, science, gross motor, fine motor, water, sand, table, blocks etc.) and did circle times based on the topics of their interests. I completed my study in August of 2013 and since that year of October I have been working as a junior kindergarten teacher at a child care centre in Richmond. Although I have never gotten trained in the fields of special needs, I have been working with children with special challenges for 19 months. As I got to know them, it has become a little easier to realize their needs and attend to them, but I am still not confident about supporting them and would like to get the proper training so that I will know more effective ways to support developments of each child with his or her unique needs.
