Early Childhood Educator in Scarborough, Ontario

I have three children ranging in ages from 15 to 5. I have also had many jobs caring for children of different ages, in my home, their home and even as a live in Nanny when my oldest was a baby. I volunteered at the Toronto Botanical Gardens assisting the educators in implementing their curriculum. Children from different schools would attend and we would guide them through the different learning opportunities teaching them about plant and insect life through hands on experiences. \r\n\r\nDuring my time at Centennial in their ECE program I had the opportunities to work in different settings through my placements. I worked in a toddler preschool, a kindergarten classroom and a preschool for children with special needs. I enjoyed all of these experiences and learned a lot from each. My daughter was born with Down Syndrome and she is now five years old. I have spent the last five years learning about different abilities and ways to adapt learning to help children reach their full potential. I have learned a lot from her occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists that I take home and work with her on different strategies and areas of development. \r\n\r\nDuring my recent placement I applied for specialized placement and was able to work at Centennial Infant and Child Care. This was an amazing opportunity to work 1:1 with each individual child, learning their interests, their skill levels and how to create learning opportunities to help them develop new skills. During this time I also learned how to assist children who have mobility needs such as carrying them the proper way, assisting with crawling, walking, toileting and finding ways to help strengthen their muscle groups during gross motor activities.
