Early Childhood Educator in Guelph, Ontario

I received a Bachelor's degree at the University of Guelph as an undergraduate student majoring in Child, Youth, and Family in June 2019. During my time at the university, I gained experience with children of preschool age through the practicum program. I acquired many strategies that I could use to maintain their interests throughout the planned programs and appropriately supervise them to adjust in group activities and follow rules in the child centre. Additionally, I developed program planning skills through developing guided programs including a variety of different topics tailored to their specific interests using books, songs and games to stimulate their attention and abilities. These skills that I gained from the practicum were further implemented in the recent YMCA toddler room teacher job experience. After I graduated, I worked as a teacher in a toddler room that belonged to one of YMCA’s childcare centres in Guelph, Ontario. Throughout this position, I had many chances to practice and further develop my skills for program planning and implementing skills, and learn strategies (or tactics) to maintain children’s interests and eventually lead to further interests with activities. In addition, I could improve my abilities to build good rapport not only with the toddlers but also with their parents through constant communication in order to maintain the most up-to-date information about the children to work together. Lastly, writing skills have improved, since I was responsible to write daily journals and weekly documentations about activities to inform parents.
