Early Childhood Educator in North York, Ontario

I'm an
Individual
My name is Karishma and I am a graduate of the Early Childhood Education Program at Centennial College. I am currently seeking employment in the field of education. Throughout my learning, I have used resources such as the HDLH document, the ELECT document, and the code of Ethichs and Standrds. In my past three placements, I have been given the opportunity to work with children ages 3-5. My first placement took place at the Friendly Little Campus Daycare where I spent 12 weeks with the children of the toddler 1 room. Within the duration of my stay I was able to connect with parents and members of the team, also most importantly create a bond of trust with the children. My daily activities would be ensuring the health and safety of the children by ensuring their environments are clear of spills, tidying up after they play with toys and assist them in washing their hands to prevent the spread of germs. Creating a bond with the parents during this time was also very critical as I was going to be assisting and providing their child with quality care for the time I was there. To maintain the bond, I ensured that communication was a part of daily interactions whether their child had a positive or negative day. This placement allowed me to open my eyes into the world of ECE. During my second semester placement which took place at the Higher Marks Educational Institute, I was given the opportunity to work with the preschoolers (ages 5). This placement allowed me to become more knowledgeable and be able to witness the difference in the level of communication between toddlers and preschoolers. Higher Marks allowed me to g ow both personally and professionally as an ECE. I was given the opportunity to co-teach and ensure that the curriculum was being followed. Working with this age group allowed me to use materials to showcase their creativity. Children were given the opportunity to use shaving cream, blue food colouring and water to learn the process of rain. It sparked interests as to how the rain accumulates into the sky. This placement also allowed me to improve on communicating with my peers and team members. I was given the opportunity to work with the principle and other teachers to plan activities that will be beneficial to children and their learning. We took into consideration children's temperaments and used it to plan for each child individually.
