My name is Amy Hawthorne and I have obtained my Bachelor of Education degree and am currently completing my Bachelor of Psychology degree through Athabasca University. I thoroughly enjoy working with children and watching them grow and expand their understanding of the world around them. I have also found that developing meaningful relationships with the children and their families provides the opportunity to gain a deeper level of understanding of each child. Being a part of the educational process of each child has been a privilege and I am excited to gain further opportunities. Throughout the last eleven years I have been involved with working with individuals with developmental delays and various mental, emotional and physical conditions. I have coordinated with specialized service teams such as occupational therapists, behavioral therapists and speech language pathologists while working closely with clinical coordinators. On a daily basis I worked incorporating recommendations and adjusted the recommendations on a trial and error basis. I have also worked closely with school teams in order to help troubleshoot issues such as medication, behaviours of concern, toileting and regulation issues. Over the last 5 years I have expanded my experience which includes being a respite worker, speech assistant and personnel and training coordinator to encompass more children and adults with exceptionalities such as different severities of the Autism Spectrum, Prader-Willi syndrome, severe global delays and cerebral palsy.
