Early Childhood Educator in Kitchener, Ontario

I currently work at Creative Beginnings Childcare in Baden where I was fortunate to be hired as a full-time Preschool teacher in May 2013, immediately following graduation. In September 2014, I made the choice to move to the Kindergarten After-School Program. In addition to allowing me to further expand my knowledge and experience, this move allowed me to continue to work with my preschool children who were heading off to school. I recognize that consistency is an important part of early learning experiences, and by continuing to work with this group of children in the After School Program, I could provide that consistency and support. Their little lives were about to be turned upside down with the new experience of Junior Kindergarten and I thought it was best that I be the familiar face at the end of the day. I have had many parents thank me for doing this because they believe it truly made a difference in the ease of transition from Preschool into Kindergarten. My experiences at Creative Beginnings have allowed me to develop a strong understanding of program planning and curricula, strategies for inclusion, documentation and reporting, and the Full Day Early Learning Kindergarten program. I have experience developing and implementing individual learning plans, and working with teaching partners within the Centre. I have become a certified literacy coach for the Seeds of Empathy Program, and a trained volunteer for the Strong Start to Reading “Letters, Sounds and Words” program. Over the past several months, I have also worked as part of a teaching team to design the 2015 Summer Camp program. In addition to my work at Creative Beginnings, I have a range of experience working in different types of organizations over the past number of years. Through my schooling I completed four co-op placements. I have worked with many age groups through these activities, including infants, toddlers, pre-school and kindergarten-aged children. My third placement was a special “atypical” activity that required me to apply for through the college. I was honoured to be granted the placement and was able to spend time working in the Ontario Early Years Centre “Our Place”. Through my final placement, and also as part of several courses in the ECE program, I had the opportunity to learn about the Full Day Early Learning Kindergarten (FDELK) document. Since the age of 12, I have experience with children of all ages from birth to 12 years old, some with diverse abilities such as Autism, Down’s Syndrome and a child with a severe hearing loss. I have worked with children in a daycare setting, a camp environment, a sports program and several Kindergarten classrooms. As shown in my resume, I have experience working and volunteering in many different child-friendly environments and through my training and work actitvities I have learned how to handle even the most challenging experiences and situations.
