I designed several inquiry based science lessons for grade 4/5 students. I wanted my students to succeed which is why I used multiple assessment tools such as observations, presentations, teacher-student conferences, informal class quizzes to determine what my students learnt. I planned and implemented a wide range of lessons in each subject (drama, art, math, social studies, and language) for grade 1/2 students. Some of these lessons were developed spontaneously, in partnership with the classroom teacher, while other lessons were developed using the Grade 1/2 curriculum. I ensured that all children understood tasks that were assigned by modifying my speech with patience to the level at which each student can understand. I demonstrated and facilitated self-regulation skills and problem-solving techniques. For younger children, I planned activities based on their interests and I led circle time with the kids. I helped children with autism, children who spoke English as a second language, and children who had learning disabilities by using visuals and simplifying tasks so that they understood what was expected of them. I created activities based on ongoing observations. I learned to consider the child’s strengths and weaknesses, and planned the ‘next steps’ for the child to take in order to build their strengths and move away from their weaknesses.
