Early Childhood Educator in Ottawa, Ontario

My name is Kelly Hall, and I am searching part time substitute Early Childhood Educator opportunities in the Ottawa area. I currently hold a Bachelor of Kinesiology from Acadia University and my Early Childhood Education diploma from the Algonquin College Intensive Program (currently an RECE). During university I specialized in Health and Wellness which stressed the importance of building overall health from infancy onwards. The ECE Intensive program at Algonquin College allowed me to further develop my knowledge of childhood development and the implementation of emergent curriculum through the ELECT Framework. For the last two years I have been working full time in the Preschool Program at The Bettye Hyde CELC. Our dedication to setting children up for success and allowing emergent curriculum based on the child’s interest has allowed me to grow as an ECE. The introduction of the module How Does Learning Happen allowed me as an educator to further explore how a child interacts with his/her environment and how important it is to allow a child to explore, create, and learn through his/her experiences. This past February I was hired at Algonquin College to teach the Music and Movement course. This course focuses on learning opportunities which occur during music and movement programs. Throughout my years in the fitness and tourism industries I have had ample opportunities to work with children. I have worked with children on an individual and group basis. My years upon cruise ships allowed me to work with children from a plethora of cultural backgrounds who spoke multiple languages and who experienced many types of exceptionalities. I developed and ran programs for hundreds of children between the ages of 2 years to 17 years old. A highlight of my career working with children was when I traveled to Quito, Ecuador in 2013 to volunteer at a not-for-profit childcare centre where I ran programs for toddlers for six weeks. I created and presented my own Zumbathon benefit to fund raise for this initiative. I feel strongly about offering fun and safe programs that focus on enhancing and supporting children’s development across the four developmental domains. I believe that overall development in cognitive abilities, social and emotional abilities, and language abilities can be enhanced and supported through play. My philosophy is based on the importance of physical movement and appreciating and supporting the individual child. I feel strongly that each child is given the tools to thrive in his/her individual settings. I am energetic, organized, and work well in a team environment. I speak French and Basic Spanish and am certified in First Aid/ CPR AED. I would love to be considered as a substitute on a part time basis.
