Early Childhood Educator in Oshawa, Ontario

Over the past six years I have obtained extensive experience within the early year’s field. Through completing the Early Childhood Leadership Degree, I was fortunate enough to complete two full practicum placements at the University of Western Lab School and an FDK classroom. A summer internship was also completed through the City of Toronto adding to the hands on and in field experience I received within the program. The practicum and internship experience allowed me to be able to utilize and continue the growth of both my understanding and knowledge of child development. During these six years I have also spent my summers employed with the City of Toronto working as a Camp Coordinator where I have planned and implemented a fun filled, age appropriate 10 week summer camp program for children between the ages of 4-12. Within the last two year I was chosen to create, plan and implement a preschool camp, which allowed me to enhance my leadership skills working with new children each week with a variety of needs, abilities and interest. In this position I also worked as an active mentor and supervisor to my staffing team. I also have experience working within a licensed child care for a year while in school. Within this time I was able to gain insight into the policies and procedures as to how a center runs smoothly and was also able to gain experience working with children ranging from newborn/infant-school age. The experience I have obtained over the years regarding working with children with special needs has been expanded over the various experiences working within different child care settings. The camp setting allowed me to take on a leadership role in the overall well-being of all campers in my care resulting in the program to be constantly adapted to the various needs of the children. Ensuring all children felt included, had fun and learned something new regardless of their abilities or needs. I have also been privileged enough to be an observer of other child care professionals care for children with different behavioural and special needs. Observing other professionals has allowed me to expand my own practices and carry vital knowledge to every new experience I encounter.
