Early Childhood Educator in Toronto, Ontario

For the past 3 years I have been enrolled in the Child and Youth Worker Program at George Brown College and I will be pursuing further education at Ryerson University. Through the Child and Youth Worker Program, I have had placements in two classrooms (each placement lasting 7 months). I worked within the TDSB and TCDSB with grade 2 and 3 students. Through all my placements I facilitated activities based on client need such as healthy friendships, self esteem, emotions, separation and for overall fun. I have done this through art activities, worksheets and dramatization (role play and puppets). Furthermore, in high school I had a Co-op Placement in a grade 2 classroom where I was the teacher's assistant. My most recent placement in the TCDSB, I was working in a behavioural classroom for grade 2 students who were 5 and 6.The students presented various behavioural, emotional and learning difficulties. The setting was structured, reinforced positive behaviours and taught prosocial skills. Before that, I worked one on one with a student who had a hearing impairment. I helped him with the completion of tasks such as worksheets and tests. As well as helped him to interact with his peers, to provide an overall inclusive and safe space for all. Additionally, students in these classrooms were often diagnosed with ADHD.
