Early Childhood Educator in Toronto, Ontario

I completed my first student placement as a Youth Worker Intern at Dovercourt Boys and Girls Club. In this position, my responsibilities included working with youth and delivering programs, as well as implementing community events to increase involvement. This position allowed me to gain experience working with youth directly and I was able to effectively provide support and guidance. My second placement as a Youth Worker was completed at St. Jerome Toronto Catholic District School Board. I got the opportunity to work with the Intermediate Behavioural Program where I worked with students dealing with various mental health disorders such as Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Non-verbal Learning Disabilities, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. This position allowed me to work one-on-one with students that were having trouble with the academic work, assess how often a particular behavior was occurring, set goals and strategies to improve behaviours and as well programmed activities to encourage the learning and use of social skills. I have helped children with special needs by communicating with them through body language, so they can come to understand what I am trying to express. I have also worked with children who have learning disabilities and strategically came with new ways to teach them class materials.
