Early Childhood Educator in Ottawa, Ontario

Hello, my name is Jessica Owen. I am an Early Childhood Education Graduate at Algonquin College In Ottawa Ontario. I am creative, enthusiastic, fun, and dedicated Early Childhood Educator with the ability to have positive partnerships through professional verbal, nonverbal, and written communication skills when working with families, colleagues, children, and other professionals. I believe children are frequently engaging in making meaning, sharing their perceptions, and understanding the world they live in. Children learn in their unique way and have different learning styles. I provide learning opportunities that reflect individuals and the whole child’s learning styles in in their learning experiences that foster their development. Learning is a continuous process that has a variety difficulties that has to be achieved to reach your goals. I believe in children learn through play-based learning (child centered) that enables children to use their critical thinking to form their ideas, and theories based on what they already have knowledge about. It assists children to have a better understanding and further their learning. According to How Does Learning Happen (2014) that “children are competent, capable of complex thinking, curious, and rich in potential as well as they grow up in families with diverse social, cultural, and linguistic perspectives”. Furthermore, I believe that children explore, manipulate, develop, design, wonder, problem-solving, and ask questions through inquiry based learning. I believe the concept of learning is taking risks, problem-solving, trial and error, exploring, identifying, constructing meaning, and communicating ideas. Moreover, the key element of successful learning is providing a safe, secure, stimulating environment for children to experience a sense of equality, trust, and a sense of belonging. A successful learning situation is not always getting the answers right for the first time; is about trial and error. A successful learning experience is promoting children critical thinking, asking questions, interests, and motivation. Children who engaged in inquiry-play based experiences develop self-regulation, social skills, cognitive process, language, and leads to enhance children to academic achievements. My values and beliefs are as an educator is value diversity families and children well-being, cultures, traditions, and the rights of children. I value families’ cultures by providing respectful opportunities for children learning that is a welcoming, and inclusive an environment that brings a sense of belonging.
