I am caring and friendly; I work efficiently and effectively as part of a team. I also take great enjoyment in helping and making a difference in peoples’ lives. Over the last 5 years I have worked in a care setting, I have found providing care and assistance that help a patient/service user feel safe and comfortable very rewarding. In my current role as a health care assistant I have learnt to be very patient, friendly and positive regardless of what challenges that may arise. This helps the service users I care for feel safe and protected, I practice caring for others as I would want to be treated myself, ensuring patient privacy, dignity and respect at all times. I feel that the skills I have developed in my place of work such as excellent care, communication and infection control easily transferred. I try to build up relationships with the patients to make them feel as comfortable and relaxed as much as possible. I find working in a ward where the patients welcome you by name each time I come onto shift and appear pleased to see me is a testament to offering excellent care. I understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality and I am fully aware of the data protection act, I have experience in writing, handling and storing confidential documents in my current place of work. I have good written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to use my own initiative. I am also very flexible in my working hours. Some of the skills and roles in being a health care assistant such as assisting patients with personal hygiene, toileting, use of continence , basic life support and ensuring patient safety I have experience of and feel comfortable with. I am very enthusiastic and open to learning new skills, roles and duties I have good knowledge on taking patients vital observations, and understanding these observations. I have a good knowledge of disability and illness from my role as a special needs support worker. I have 5 years experience as a support worker, where I was supporting young children with various disabilities and over a year working in an acute clinical ward. I have also gained my NVQ Lvl 3 Diploma QUALIFACATIONS in children’s and young people health and social care as well as adult health and social care, this has made me comfortable offering care to a wide range of patients regardless of their condition, age or abilities.
