Early Childhood Educator in Brampton, Ontario

This field has taught me a lot about children, parents, teachers. It has given me the opportunity to grow in many areas and I've really enjoyed the process. In the past few years, I have been able to work in a few centres with different teaching methods (i.e emergent, themed). I have been able to work with new graduate teachers as well as teachers that have worked in the field for many years. With both, I learned that they had much to give and I was eager to learn and keep growing. I have also had the opportunity to work with an age range of children going from new born (5mths) to school age children (10yrs), each age is a challenge but each have something unique to give. I believe children learn best through play, especially when activities are planned to encourage the use of all their developmental areas. A well structured learning environment and schedule is key to fostering a good development, as well as good communication with the parents. I am greatful for everything I have learned but I also think I still have more to learn and lots to give. At one of my centres I was able to work with a few children with needs( i.e physical, A.D.D. ). At first, it was very challenging to find the best way to work with the child. Working with the teachers and being on the same page with the techniques, routines, rules, reinforcement was key to helping the child. Planning activities individually set for the child and some one on one was needed. Keeping records between teachers and parents also helped to make adjustments if needed. Overall, I really enjoyed the chance I had to help and learn.
