Early Childhood Educator Job in Calgary, Alberta

Glenmore Christian Academy (GCA) was established in 1980 as a private accredited Christian school located in the Southwest of Calgary, Alberta, specializing in the education of children in grades K-9. GCA is a member of the AISCA (Association of Independent Schools and Colleges in Alberta). GCA’s focus on educational and personal development excellence has led it to be consistently ranked as one of the best performing schools in Alberta. GCA has two principals and a staff of 80 serving approximately 870 students. GCA offers an Out of School Care program made up of three components to complement the academic philosophy of the school. During school hours we provide full day Kindergarten care on non-kindergarten days through our Royal Cubs program. In addition, we have an ABC program (After/Before Care) that operates outside of school hours and offers additional care to school age children for families that need it. We are also excited to introduce a new Junior Kindergarten this year that will provide early education to two classes twice a week. The Out of School Care Program has a part-time position in our ABC program which operates on school days from 7-9am and 3-6pm. This is a contract position from September to June with the potential of a renewal each year. Hours may vary on PD/non-instructional days. There is a possibility of working additional hours when there is a need for internal coverage. Qualifications and Characteristics Successful applicants will possess the following characteristics: - A vibrant Christian faith, demonstrating the leadership of Jesus Christ - Agree with and abide by the GCA Statement of Faith - Experience working with children between the ages of 4 and 12 - Passionate about creating meaningful experiences and relationships - Ability to work independently as well as on a team - Able to work under the direct supervision of the Program Director - Provide a Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search - Certified in Standard First Aid and CPR, or be willing to receive certification - Minimum certification in Child Development Assistant, or willingness to receive certification - Ability to provide support on short notice when required - Fluent in English (verbal and written) Roles and Responsibilities The duties included in this position may include some or all of the following: - Must know and follow all protocols required by licensing for the program - Create and actively promote a comfortable and welcoming environment - Assist in the implementation of lessons and activities - Effective supervision of children - Responsible for daily opening/closing activities for the program - Maintain a safe and clean area at all times - Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the program Director Applicants must have the right to work in Canada.
