Early Childhood Educator Job in Ancaster, Ontario

Nurture Through Nature is a small, 5 child private preschool (unlicensed) that is dedicated to providing children ages 18 months - 4 years with an exceptional nature-based educational experience. We are opening in early 2022. We have a largely emergent, student-led play and place-based curriculum where children are understood as competent learners that help forge their own learning and program. Students spend the majority of the day immersed in various outdoor settings where learning is unhurried and there is space for independent reflection, collaborative creation and risky play. They enjoy the freedom to explore, build, play and engage with various age groups interacting together throughout every season of the year. We are hiring a lead educator who is dedicated to building meaningful and lasting relationships, has a natural desire and connection to nature and the outdoors and has a love for teaching in nature. The candidate is a Registered Early Childhood Educator, or holds a Bachelors of Education or training in an alternative model such as Waldorf, Forest, Nature or Montessori methods and has excellent knowledge and skills in working with current Ministry of Education documents (Early Learning for Every Child Today, How Does Learning Happen? And The Kindergarten Program document). We offer full-day programs Mondays through Fridays, 8am - 4pm. We are a mostly outdoors, all-weather program so the candidate must enjoy working outdoors and engaging children in nature (insects, wildlife, hiking, gardening, streams, etc). Required Q*ualifications:* Preferred: Early Childhood Education Diploma, Bachelor of Education Degree and/or Forest School / Nature School / Waldorf or Montessori Practitioner. Current First Aid with level C CPR (or able to complete prior to start date) Clear criminal record check, including vulnerable sector Experience working with young children and experience working in an outdoor setting Physically capable of performing teaching duties with enthusiasm regardless of the weather (rain, sleet, snow, heat) including the ability to walk distances on uneven terrain, carry a backpack and supplies Interest in the forest/ nature school approach to early childhood education, and an appreciation for emergent learning philosophies Understanding of the benefits of risk taking and a play-based curriculum Familiarity with the local flora and fauna (or willing to seek outside training or self-study) and an interest in learning about and improving upon your outdoor skills Description/Responsibilities: As the learn educator, you must be dependable and reliable to attend each and every scheduled day. Develop and deliver daily forest/ nature school programming with children aged 18 months- 4 years Researching, planning and implementing a dynamic Forest and Nature School program and daily preparation of learning areas and materials Plan and prepare activities and projects utilizing natural materials that are locally foraged or sourced Communicating effectively with director of programming Communicating with parents effectively in person regarding the program Responding appropriately to the varying needs of children and implementing strategies that are individually focused and age appropriate, with an emphasis on compassion and respect Willingness to attend staff meetings Effectively using the natural landscape in a variety of ways to foster learning and spark curiosity with the students Supporting student sense of wonder and integrate inquiry-based strategies that effectively extends student emergent learning and interests. Ensure the safety of all participants at all times, including but not limited to: forest play, crafts, story telling and hikes Document observations of each child’s interests and progress Work Period: Full-time position Please include a cover letter with resume describing why you believe you are an excellent fit for our school.
