Job Summary: Under the guidance of the Director and through the prepared environment the Directress will provide a comprehensive Montessori education for children ages 3-6. The Directress will act in accordance with the school’s philosophy, program statement, practices and policies at all times. Summary of Qualifications: • Hold a Montessori certificate (MACTE accredited) • A strong commitment to working with pre-school children from a diverse background and the ability to relate joyfully and respectfully • Keep up to date and actively implement all of the working policies and principals set out by the following governing bodies: Toronto Children`s Services Assessment for Quality Improvement, Ministry of Education under the Child Care and Early Years Act, CCMA, and Toronto Public Health • A proven professional approach, work ethic and model best behavior and practices • Demonstrate the skills of classroom management techniques, current researched best practices and strategies that assist in the positive interactions between children and adults and their peers • Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR • Complete TB test and immunization records • Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • A strong commitment to lifelong learning and a growth mindset • Ability to lift and carry children Duties and Responsibilities-Classroom and Administrative: • Maintain a prepared classroom environment with materials that address the specific diverse individual and group needs of children and their families and ensure that these materials are easily accessible • Safeguard the health and safety of all children through constant supervision and identify children who are unwell or may need extra support • Utilize a tracking system to record Montessori lessons presented and mastered • Ensure that the children`s portfolios and observations reports are up to date and readily available at all times • Instruct and monitor children in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injuries and damage • Conduct activities and lessons for entire classes and small groups through music, science, art, and dramatic play • Update all required forms that relate to the daily operation of the classroom i.e.) The Nipissing District Developmental Screen Checklist, Daily Wellness and Playground Checklists, Sleep Logs, Permission to give medication forms, Injury Reports, Attendance Verification and Transition Verification • Maintain the prescribed child to adult ratio numbers at all times • Keep a sanitary and safe environment that is in accordance with Toronto Public Health i.e.) frequent hand washing, daily disinfecting and ensuring that all checklists and documentation are kept up to date, easily available and filed accordingly • Have awareness of all allergies and Emergency plans • Maintain daily attendance binder with appropriate forms and record children`s arrival and departure time • Update children`s files and emergency cards • Read daily communication book and follow any requests • Report all accidents, injuries and illnesses to the manager or designate and record incidents • Keep Manager and or Director advised of any pertinent information regarding parents, children or staff performance that may cause concern • Connect and communicate with parents regarding their child’s development • Attend all staff meetings and take notes if requested • Follow legislation for reporting child abuse • Update daily and monthly time logs • Assist in training and evaluating ECE and Montessori students during practicum and provide ongoing observations; daily informal verbal feedback and formal weekly verbal feedback • Support ratio staff with the onboarding process and ensure that they work in accordance with all school policies and procedures • Act as a designated supervisor when requested and carry out all duties and responsibilities Communication and Networking: • Support the diverse needs of all families and work to ensure a successful transition • Connect and communicate with parents regarding their child’s development • Collaborate with staff on a daily basis to share best practices • Maintain confidentiality of all information related to the school and discern what information to release • Complete daily communication boards i.e. rest-meal, whiteboards • Maintain a classroom that cultivates and practices respect in all day to day operations • Be available to participate in school events and coordinate children’s presentations i.e.) Family Day Celebration, Parent Conferences and Observation Week
