Job Summary The Montessori Assistant is a critical member of our small team, responsible for applying their Montessori knowledge, training, and experience to assist the delivery of a quality authentic Montessori Casa program for children aged 3 to 5 years old. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, is passionate about Montessori, has a positive engaged attitude, is a strong team player, and interested in undertaking professional development to train in the Montessori philosophy and perhaps even become a Montessori Lead. Personal qualities • Positive, engaged, and passionate about Montessori and working with young children. • Calm gentle demeanour and excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English language. • Strong team player, who is flexible, pro-active, reliable, and able to uses own initiative to get the job done well. Primary responsibilities • Supervise and manage children’s classroom behaviour consistent with the Montessori philosophy, using proven strategies & techniques, enabling the Lead to give lessons and/or children to do their work, without disruption or interruption. • Monitor each child and guide them, using Montessori knowledge and training, to complete their work cycles, including putting materials away correctly and cleaning up after themselves, as required. • Use Montessori training, knowledge, and experience to consistently guide and facilitate each child’s use of grace & curtsy practices throughout the day. • Carefully observe children’s use of materials and behaviour, recording observations when necessary, and communicate them to the Lead in a timely manner, to support each child’s development and learning. Other responsibilities • Help maintain a well organized and clean classroom environment. • Assist classroom Lead plan and prepare program activities and materials, as required. • Be a strong team player and a good role model for children and parents, always modeling courteous and professional behaviour. • Actively participate in on-going professional development to enhance Montessori knowledge / experience and child development. • Assist with Centre cleaning duties and opening/closing procedures. • Attend and participate in staff meetings, organization/training days and Centre events, as required. • Any other related responsibilities not detailed here but that could be reasonably expected.
