We are looking for an outstanding, passionate, dedicated, experienced individual to join our team as a Permanent Part time Early Childhood Professional. This is a union position working 25 hours a week Monday to Friday 11am – 4pm. Description The Early Childhood Professional will provide safe and supportive opportunities to explore their surroundings through a semi-structured approach to care. The children’s activity center is open to children aged 0-17 who are residing in our emergency shelter. Embedded in attachment and trauma informed concepts, children are provided developmentally appropriate activities and crafts that allow them to explore their interests, build relationships with their family and peers and highlight their sense of self and uniqueness. Parents are welcomed to drop off their children or some in play alongside them. The Early childhood professional will work with targeted support from our child, youth and family therapist through connection-based activities and an innovative approach to digital engagement when families are in isolation ensure inclusion and access on varying levels for families. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING As an Early Childhood Professional, you will: • Be Responsible to implement and assign structured, purposeful activities congruent with children’s age and stage of development • Offer and provide necessary support and regular consultation to mothers regarding the child’s progress. • Utilize positive behavior management strategies and record responses from staff that are impactful and meaningful for children and their mothers. • provide a balance between a structured and free play environment for children. Opportunities to play inside and outside will be made available as weather permits. • ensure children have healthy snacks • conduct regular checks to ensure toys and other children’s articles do not clutter the room. • check regularly the outdoor play area, making sure it is safe for children’s play and advising mothers that children playing outside need to be supervised. • Contribute to the team by consulting and working with staff and volunteers to facilitate the integration of all programs which clients may participate in, including child support, outreach, and other programs • Other duties as assigned WHAT YOU BRING TO OUR MISSION •Alberta recognized Level one Child Development Certification is required. Alberta recognized Level Two (formerly Childhood Development Worker) or Level Three (formerly Child Development Supervisor) Certification is Preferred. Educational equivalencies will not be accepted. •A Minimum of two (2) years’ previous experience working in a childcare facility. • A Minimum of one (1) year of previous experience working with children exposed to violence would be an asset. • Experience in any of the following areas would be an asset: family violence, children’s services, homelessness, or addictions/mental health issues. • A general understanding of child development. • Discretion, tack, and the ability to maintain confidentiality to safeguard clients is a necessity. • Team work philosophy of collaboration and cooperation is required as it is necessary to coordinate the involvement of other colleagues on the team and throughout the agency. • Self-motivated with strong self-management ability is essential. o Strong communication skills (oral and written) in English. A second language would be an asset. o Demonstrated effective and engaging interpersonal skills. o Strong organizational skills with strengths in prioritization and efficiencies. o Able to multi-task and adapt to various situations. o Ability to think creatively and resolve problems efficiently and effectively Core Competencies Life wide learning, flexibility, collaboration, client focused, crisis intervention, critical and creative thinking IMPORTANT DETAILS YOU NEED TO KNOW • Ongoing training and development are a required condition of this position. • A criminal records search and an intervention record check are conditions of employment. • If eligible for registration with a professional body, registration must be current. • Effective January 1st, 2022 being fully vaccinated against Covid-19 is a condition of employment In accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.
