The Assistant Executive Director (A-ED) is responsible for supporting the Executive Director (ED) in the day-to-day management of Howard Park Children’s Centre. The position reports to the Executive Director and helps the ED to manage the Centre according to the strategic direction set by the Board. The A-ED collaborates with the ED to implement and maintain strong administrative systems. To support the ED, the position also has a focus on program and curriculum and will collaborate with the Team Leads and staff to make sure that each program meets the standards of excellence for which the Centre is known for. The AD will assume the role of child care administrator in the ED’s absence. The duties and responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to: 1. Leadership Supports the ED to set organizational, program and service goals and outlines related expected outcomes Supports the ED to identify the required resources (e.g. staffing and program related) to achieve goals Helps to identify strategies/solutions to address changing conditions in the child care field 2. Program Oversight Has a thorough knowledge of all requirements necessary to achieve compliance and oversees compliance with the Child Care and Early Years Act, Toronto Children Services Operating Criteria, Ministry of Education Early Years Division Licensing Requirements, Public Health, Toronto Fire Services, Ministry of Labour and any other government or regulatory bodies Is trained in all reporting requirements for the above oversight bodies Ensures the maintenance of all children’s program and personnel records Has a thorough knowledge of Howard Park Children’s Centre’s policies and procedures and monitors the staff and program to ensure that all policies are being adhered to In conjunction with the Director and Board of Directors, ensures that all policies are current and compliant with legislative requirements 3. Operational Management The A-ED, works with Centre staff and Howard Public School principal and teachers to determine shared space solutions including placement and storage of classroom supplies and equipment Helps to supervise the purchase, distribution and maintenance of classroom supplies and equipment as are needed to deliver the required educational programming while keeping costs within set budgets Helps to ensure there is sufficient and effective inventory control of supplies, equipment and material and appropriate storage for the supplies, equipment and material purchased Maintains an accurate and up to date record of all equipment in the Centre Monitors enrollment ensures the Executive Director is managing the wait list and fills all vacancies by promoting the organization to the surrounding community A full Job Description will be made available at the time of interview. Educational/Experience Requirements: Early Childhood Education Diploma/Degree (member in good standing in the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators) Further Post Diploma degrees, certificates and courses an asset Experience in a leadership/management capacity - preferably in a child care organization (demonstrated on the job leadership capacity or in an official role) Knowledge of or experience with operating a program in accordance to a number of regulatory requirements (e.g. Child Care and Early Years Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, City of Toronto Children’s Services Operating Requirements etc....) Current First Aid and CPR Food Handlers Certificate within 2 years of Expiry Certificate in WHIMIS and Health and Safety Training Has an excellent knowledge of child development, parenting styles, health and nutrition, etc.? Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills required, both oral and written. Excellent decision-making and problem solving skills Ability to work independently without direct supervision Ability to communicate effectively with clients, staff, community partners Able to manage teams and individuals Ability to lead by example and to mentor and empower staff Ability to multitask, manage a number of projects and individuals simultaneously and so professionally and with ease Be able to handle stressful situations Is trained in the Ontario Human Rights Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 and Occupational Health and Safety Act Maintains knowledge of professional development and workplace wellness and advises ED when staff needs are apparent Continually seeks new professional development opportunities (on the job and otherwise) for staff so as to enrich their knowledge HPCC is an equal opportunity employer.
