Howard Park Children’s Centre We are looking for an RECE to be part of our team. We are a before and after school program, located in a School in the High Park Area in Toronto. We have two FDK (ages 4 & 5) and four School Age rooms (ages 6 – 11) We are looking for someone to be able to work in one of our School Age rooms. The successful candidate must have knowledge and experience in working with school age children and to be able to come up with strategies and tools when supporting a child with special needs or behavioral issues. The hours are 2:00 – 6... hour shifts in the summer, P A days, March break etc.) Start date: June 17, 2024. Salary: starting from $26.00 per hour. Included in the salary is a 4% holiday pay and the PWE grant. GENERAL RESPONSIBLITIES: Works with Room partner to plan and implement the program with age appropriate activities to enhance the children’s cognitive, physical, social and emotional development in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act, and the program criteria. Incorporates learning experiences designed to meet the individual needs of the children. Provides a physically safe and emotionally supportive environment showing sensitivity to the individual needs of children in all aspects of development. WORK PROCEDURES: · Works in consultation with the Team Lead, their room partner and other staff to provide age-appropriate programs to enhance the children’s cognitive, physical social and emotional development. · Provides a daily balance of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, and individual/group activities. · Establishes and carries out a schedule that incorporates child-directed activity, care and routines and transition times. · Uses a variety of teaching techniques including modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating and reinforcing. · Develops and implements programs to promote and enhance creativity in all areas: creative, dramatic play, cognitive play, emotional awareness, music appreciation, science and nature, fine motor, gross motor and sensory activities. · Provides a variety of material to encourage large and small muscle development for indoor and outdoor play, (coordinating and working with local childcare centres on special events and excursions). · Provides experiences and play materials that actively promote anti-racist and non-sexist integration’s and attitudes. · Conducts daily health checks of children; records of all medications administered. · Administers first aid as required, and Accident Report Forms to be filed out. · Carry out safe arrival and departures of children each day. · Responsible for group during fire drills. · Obtains appropriate supplies for planned activities: checks that the activity area, toys and equipment are safe and sanitary; sets up activity area and tidies same. · Attends staff meetings, general meetings and other functions i.e. fundraising events QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS -Graduate from an approved program in Early Childhood Education or provincially recognized equivalent, plus a minimum of two years related experience. -Knowledge and experience in working with children with special needs. · Experience in licensed child care programs and activities, including knowledge of: policies and procedures related to the operation of a child care centre; child guidance techniques for healthy children as well as children with physical or developmental challenges; child development; standard methods of behavioral observation. · Demonstrates ability to direct, instruct and care for children. · Ability to handle emergencies, crises and maintain control in frustrating situations. · Ability to communicate well with room partner and other staff members. · Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with children, parents, staff, teachers and the public. · Responsible for confidentiality of all information related to children, parents, staff. · Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Child Care and Early Years Act, and the Child and Family Services Act and the ability to meet the specifications of the Acts and any other regulations that apply to this work. -Must be in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Education. -Holder of a current, valid standard First Aid Certificate.
