A. JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for the preparation and implementation of the daily classroom program and functions. Ensures developmentally appropriate experiences for all Head Start children.
B. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions:
1. Assists in planning and providing training in child development for parents. Reinforces learning activities in the home and identifies children with special needs.
2. Assists in the evaluation of assistant teachers work performance.
3. Conducts and documents ongoing assessments of each child's growth and development through the use of observations, parental input, developmental screenings, etc. Writes individual educational plans as needed.
4. Ensures all potential sources of danger that have a chance of causing injury or harm to humans are kept out of the reach of children.
5. Focuses on child development techniques, safety practices and principles while establishing a warm and friendly atmosphere.
6. Maintains a safe, healthy environment (i.e., ensures cleanliness of classrooms and safety of children and equipment; sets up classrooms for activities as needed; prepares classrooms for new fall enrollment; and conducts ongoing inventories of equipment and supplies).
7. Meets with the Education Coordinator and Site Administrator to determine the needs of the classroom.
8. Participates in team teaching, staff meetings, conferences, institutions of higher learning, etc. that enhance professional development.
9. Periodically conducts conferences with parents to discuss their child's development and to involve them in program planning.
10. Prepares and implements with assistant teacher daily lesson plans and ensures a high level of interaction with children.
11. Provides classroom data to assist in writing the monthly report and ensures that all classroom reports are submitted on a timely basis.
12. Adhere to professional standards and ethics as outlined in the personnel policy.
13. Observe the agency’s confidentiality policy regarding participants, records, technology, reports, and staff.
14. Assist children in self-help skills such toileting, dressing, eating, tooth brushing, and any other areas involving health, safety, and hygiene,
15. Be actively involved with children at all times during indoor activities and outdoor play. Reference child care licensing 5101:2-1... (Physical requirements listed below)
Non-Essential Functions:
1. Serves as an advocate for the Head Start program.
2. Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree in Early Childhood Education (ECED) or a Bachelor's or Advanced degree in any field and coursework equivalent to a major relating to early child education coupled with experience teaching preschool-age children.
2. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, applicants must be currently enrolled in a related Bachelor’s program and set to graduate within 6 months, coupled with experience teaching preschool-age children.
3. Capable of developing and sustaining warm and meaningful relationships with 3-5 year old children's parents, staff and community partners.
4. Must meet Physical Requirements of position listed below.
5. Good oral, written and interpersonal skills to work with parents, children and staff.
6. Flexible and dependable with a sound understanding of multi-racial and multi-cultural backgrounds and issues concerning children with disabilities.

Successful results of pre and continued employment assessments including fingerprinting, drug testing, medical examinations and background check(s).
