Job Summary: The Registered Early Childhood Educator collaborates closely with all other members of the program team to provide nurturing care and education to young children in a group setting, under the supervision of the Centre Supervisor; in accordance with the goals and curriculum plans of the Centre and the philosophy and policies of the agency and in compliance with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) regulations Principle Duties & Responsibilities: ~Responsible for the constant supervision, safety and well being of the children ~Recognizes and responds to the needs of each child by using developmentally appropriate teaching and child behaviour management techniques ~Shares in the responsibility for planning, preparing and implementing stimulating, age-appropriate activities that encourage childrens creativity and learning and promote each childs social, emotional, cognitive and physical development ~Participates fully and consistently as a conscientious team member in caring for the children and in the overall operation of the program and centre; maintains regular and open communication with program team members and all other co-workers ~Must know and implement: Centre routines and practices;Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) relations; the City of Toronto Health Department guidelines. ~Observes and records relevant information on each child's progress as required/as per Centre practice ~Attends and participates actively in all program/centre, parental or other meetings as required ~Shares responsibility for maintaining program equipment in good repair; assists with toy/equipment disinfecting ~Shares responsibility for maintaining the play environments and storage areas in an organized and clutter-free condition ~Assists the Centre Supervisor in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by promptly reporting any existing and/or potential workplace hazards ~Ensures that all actions and activities meet the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) regulations ~Planning and implementing programs that are engaging, stimulating and appropriate for the age group. ~Program must follow the Early Learning for Every Child Today (ELECT) framework and be based on the interests of the children. Program must meet the physical, cognitive, intellectual and emotional needs of the children ~Direct and lead team members to effectively implement classroom program ~Advise the Site Supervisor of pertinent information concerning children and their families ~Engages warmly and with care towards children at all times; demonstrates enjoyment of children in an obvious, positive way ~Uses the Code of Ethics for RECEs as a guideline for professional practice ~Positively, respectfully and openly communicates with children, colleagues, parents, community members etc. as appropriate. ~Has strong behaviour management skills ~Implements meaningful learning activities to meet the needs and interests of individual children using HDLH and ELECT ~Demonstrates good verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills through parent interactions, newsletters, daily charts ~Good computer skills-Himama experience ~Interest in continuing education through professional development/courses Qualifications: Minimum: ~Early Childhood Educator diploma ~Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators and in Good Standing. ~Must have good knowledge the CCEYA 2014, the Assessment for Quality Improvement, ELECT, How ~Does Learning Happen, Toronto Public Health and all other legislated requirements deemed necessary. ~Excellent English language communication skills, both written and verbal ~Strong interpersonal skills with an emphasis on team building ~Ability to observe, assist and develop appropriate and stimulating programs for children 18 months - 6 years using ELECT ~Willingness to spend extra time outside normal work hours for events, committees and staff meetings ~Physically, emotionally and mentally able to carry out all responsibilities and tasks identified in the job description and in the specific work schedule for the position, including being willing and able to undertake the necessary effort for the care of children, including lifting children as required, bending, squatting, moving furniture etc. ~Performs other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Centre Director or her/his designate
