Lakeside Co-Operative Playschool is a non-profit childcare centre in the heart of the Beaches area in Toronto. As one of the oldest childcare facilities established in 1972, Lakeside has an irrefutable reputation and believes in growing together as a community. We are currently looking for a full-time RECE qualified Supervisor to manage the day-care and the staff. Lakeside has recently moved location within the Beaches and is currently waiting to be licenced, by the Ministry of Education. The brand new centre, located on Queen and Beech is yet to open its doors to children following the move and government guidelines due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The successful candidate will be the licence holder and responsible for the day-to-day management of the centre. You will also be responsible for payroll, staff hire, registration and grant applications through the City of Toronto. As a co-operative, the daycare also has a responsibility to report to the Board of Directors on a monthly basis. You must also be familiar with the COVID-19 government policies and guidelines and implement them accordingly. This is a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to operate a brand new centre in an established community. The centre already has a number of returning parents and well as a healthy waitlist, awaiting registration for September 2020. We are offering a competitive salary and benefits. The successful candidate will also have the following attributes, duties and responsibilities: ​ Leadership and Administration Extensive knowledge of and maintains the standards set out by the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 (CCEYA) and the Employment Standards Act of Ontario, 2010 (ESA) current child development and initiatives related to early learning and the child care field Ensures that policies, procedures, and handbooks established by the Centre are reviewed and revised in accordance with current legislation Establishes priorities, time allocation and resources effectively Manages regular and concise record keeping and reporting with respect to all childcare functions Regularly updates and distributes parent and staff handbooks Effectively handles multiple demands and priorities Readily and sensitively manages any conflicts/issues Manages the resolution of service delivery issues, including the reporting/follow-up of centre based Serious Occurrences as outlined in legislation Keep abreast of the status of child care at the Municipal, Provincial and Federal levels of government Supervision Supervises staff, as well as lead, mentor, motivate and train staff Provides support to staff in developing highest quality curriculum and standards of care Supervises the planning and delivery of a developmentally appropriate curriculum for all children in the centre Ensures an open door policy environment is maintained at all times Ensure that staff meetings occur a minimum of once a month Ensures Daily charts are maintained in all classrooms Communication Provides clear and transparent communications with all stakeholders including school staff, ministry, parents, community and other agencies Communicates policies and procedures with the childcare staff using written guidelines, workshops and consultations Work with administrative staff and has the ability to monitor enrolment/waitlist Excellent computer literacy utilizing Ministry software and relevant software applications e.g., Microsoft Office Lead staff meetings and ensure minutes are taken and kept on file Daily contact is made with parents if necessary Ensure that schedule is flexible so as to be there for parents at opening and at closing of Child Care Centre To provide parents with referrals to additional services, if needed Sensitivity and understanding of diverse cultures and socio-economic backgrounds Participate in community events that promote the daycare Meets once a month with board member with full report on issues affecting the centre Ability to follow and adhere to decisions implemented by board members Human Resource Management Provides recognition and reinforcement to staff as well as constructive feedback Leads employee performance development and review, in collaboration with staff Conducts regular staff/team meetings Records and manages staff vacation, sick time, and time off Maintain children’s and staff files including VSC etc. Works cooperatively with staff to ensure the smooth, enriching, and safe functioning of the centre Confidentiality is maintained at all times in regard to the families and staff of childcare centre Ensure that the positive working relationships are established and maintained with staff, colleagues and the administration team Financial management Demonstrate the ability to perform the following : customer service, fiscal accountability, innovation, results orientation and teamwork Ensures adherence of financial records, school trips, summer programs Strong analytical, organizational time management skills Health and Safety Ensures the health, welfare and safety of the children and staff and ensures that the centre is in compliance with legislation, policies and procedures related to health and safety (e.g., document all accidents, injuries and illness, follows medication and first aid procedures and maintains and updates health records for children and staff) Ensures upon employment with childcare that each employee will keep informed of any changes related to the Health and Safety practices. Upon hiring, each employee must have an updated First Aid and CPR certificate and Immunization and these must be kept updated as required by law Ensures monthly site inspections and other safety drills are completed Job Type: Full-time ( 40 Hours per week) Required education: RECE diploma/degree Required experience: Child care supervisory or Assistant Supervisor: Minimum 1-2 years Required license or certification: RECE certification number in good standing Clear VSC CPR-C Food Handlers Certificate Job Type: Full-time Location: Toronto, Ontario
