Early Childhood Educator in Scarborough, Ontario

I'm an
Individual
I have worked with children for over ten years now and over those ten years I have learned a great deal about working with children and about myself as an educator. I truly enjoy all of the experiences I have been able to part take in while working with children in various school settings and childcare facilities. While working with these children I was able to utilize the skills I had learned from my professors while attending Centennial College. Skills that I had never utilized before are now like second nature to me, and I know how important they are in contributing to a healthy learning environment. I now know that it is important to not only focus on the curriculum but also integrate my observations of the children and create activities that are also cue based. I am able to document observations and select appropriate activates from the information gathered to determine which activates would be the most developmentally appropriate. I have also worked closely with children whom have a disability. While working in my classroom for children with a special need I learned a lot about how to plan for children with a developmental delay, and understanding that sometimes planning may not be the right approach, but rather changing what you had planned and manipulate the activity or materials so that all children can be included in the experience. I also learned a great deal about safety and nutrition while working with children and from the knowledge I gained while attending Centennial College. Being able to work with such young children in hopes to guide them in the right direction has always been very rewarding for me and I couldn’t imagine doing anything different. During my time assisting in the classroom and while working in childcare facilities I was able to work with a variety of different children, some of which had developmental delays. From the knowledge I gained in College I was able to integrate what I had learned and utilize it in the field. I was able to manipulate materials and activates so that each child was able to participate in the activity and also promoted an inclusive environment that fit the developmental needs of each child. Also, utilizing helpful materials and in the classroom are useful for assisting children with a disability and can make it easier for the child to participate. Lastly, being open with all of the children in the classroom about how we should treat other children and handle different situations can promote a bully free environment. This can be integrated through different activities, group discussions, and books.
