I graduated from Trent University in June 2013 with a joint major in Psychology and Anthropology. My coursework provided me an introduction to child development, and I developed a desire to build a career working with children. I continued my studies at Fleming College’s Early Childhood Education program. I had the unique opportunity of working at Compass Early Learning and Care during my placement as an administrative assistant. This experience introduced me to the administrative components of running a child care. I helped create purchase orders, payment receipts, and tax receipts. I also conducted inventory and helped calculate payroll. I gained experience with Sandbox, the child care software we used to track enrolment, billing, and payments. I assisted in planning for school age full day programs, and gained experience with scheduling staff to meet ratios. I have worked as an Early Childhood Educator since 2015. In that time, I have worked in three different childcare environments, including a kindergarten classroom and two child care centres. During my career, I have gained experience using a variety of different teaching techniques. I have also worked under multiple different supervisors. I am eager to obtain a this assistant supervisor position so that I may put the lessons I learned from this experience into practice. I am currently working at Deer Park Education Program (DPEP) with children that are between thirty months and five years old. The centre utilizes a play-based curriculum, which focuses on incorporating the educator’s observations of the children’s interests when planning activities. The experience of implementing Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years has led me to develop a passionate commitment to ensuring that each child feels heard and is given the opportunity to explore their interests in a safe educational space. My role also involves acting as an intermediary between a range of childcare stakeholders, including teachers, parents, therapists, and childcare administrators. As a result, I have developed the emotional discipline and strong communication skills that are required in child care environments.
