Early Childhood Educator in Toronto, Ontario

My name is Alison McDowell, I am a 24 year old from Ireland. I have recently moved to Toronto to gain some new experiences. I am a motivated, determined and hardworking individual with a strong desire to succeed with a polite and friendly manner. I love being challenged and working as part of a team. I received a level 8 higher degree in Childcare Management in 2016. This course entailed the study of: Educare Policy and Practice, Strategic Management, Therapeutic Play Skills, The Healthy Child in the Childcare Setting. As part of this course, I completed an Integrated Capstone Project (Dissertation). GPA: 64.45/10.... In conjunction with my Higher Degree I completing six weeks of work placement. I worked with the childcare practitioners in completing the daily routines and also assisted the children with anything were doing and may have needed. I have also received my Ordinary Degree (level 7) in Early Years’ Care and Education in 2015. The course was two years long and entailed the study of: Social Policy and Practice, Pedagogical Approaches, Early Childhood Law, Inclusion in the Early Years. GPA: 61.10/10.... During this course I completed twenty-five days of work placement as part of the ordinary degree, this fell on each Monday throughout the college year. I worked with the team in the toddler room and assisted the children with their activities, encouraging them to work together. In 2014 I received a Higher Certificate (level 6) in Childcare Supervisory Management. The course entailed the study of: Principles and Practices of Childcare, Supervisory Management and Customer Care, Development in Early Childhood. GPA: 60.09/10.... In the first year of the higher certificate I completed four weeks’ work experience in Little Haven childcare. I worked with the team in the junior pre-school room on a daily basis and took charge of reading the children stories as well as assisting the practitioners with the children’s daily nap time. During the second year of the degree I completed four weeks of work experience in Groveland’s childcare. This involved working with the team in the play group room on a daily basis to help complete the curriculum for the children. Most recently, I have completed a 10 week course level 6 in Special Needs Assisting, to aid myself within the classroom to better myself as childhood educator and assist all children. I am still awaiting the results from this course. This course entailed the learner gaining knowledge and understanding of the context of special needs, associated issues and approaches used. I have over a years experience working in a education center, primarily as a preschool teachers assistant but I did occasionally assist through the other rooms within the facility. During my time there my roles and responsibilities included guiding, observing, supervising and offering a safe, caring and stimulating environment in for the children, ensuring the safety and well-being of children in my care, assisting my room leader in the planning and the application of a stimulating programme of activities to aid the children’s growth and development, ensure all safety and quality standards of the childcare service were met and communicate with parents/guardians on a daily basis.
