Early Childhood Educator in Mississauga, Ontario

I'm an
Individual
My name is Darya and I have over 6 years experience working with children in a professional setting on an international level. I began my BA in Child Development in 2010, engaging in a variety of integrated placement opportunities, including the Infant Mental Health Department at Sick Kids in downtown Toronto. Upon graduating, I took the opportunity to travel to Sydney, Australia and have my degree recognized by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) upon seeking employment as a full time Early Childhood Educator. I began my employment as a casual staff, traveling from centre to centre and gaining hands-on experience of early childhood education that Australia has to offer. From play-based learning to the Reggio approach, I have observed a variety of documentation styles, learning spaces and their design, staff interaction with children, parents, and other professionals, developmentally appropriate practice, facilitation of program planning and positive learning experiences, and etc. I was also fortunate to take on an occasional role of an Inclusion Support Subsidy (ISS) in which I worked one-on-one with a child with special needs and collaboratively worked with a number of professionals while designing and implementing developmental goals. Upon my return to Canada, I entered the role of a full time Registered Early Childhood Educator and am currently working in a Preschool classroom with a play-based approach as means of program planning. I am very passionate about the emergent curriculum approach, along with pedagogical documentation and facilitation of developmentally appropriate activities based on the interests of the child. I am very passionate about pedagogical documentation and making learning visible. I have gained much experience with regards to designing children’s spaces (environment as third teacher), implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on the interest of the child, documenting their learning and referencing a variety of provincial documents to advocate for program planning and learning curriculum. Given my role as an RECE, it is difficult to set time aside to adequately create and design documentation panels, type up observations and anecdotes, format and develop photographs of children at play, provide subjective interpretations of the learning experience and use those inferences for further program planning and development while exerting the responsibilities of an educator in ratio within a classroom. Therefore, I am seeking a position on a full time basis in which I am able to make myself valuable in a Curriculum Development Manager role by facilitating play-based learning activities for young children based on their areas of interest and extending their learning opportunities on an ongoing basis while making learning visible for a variety of age groups.
