Early Childhood Educator in Calgary, Alberta

I graduated from the Faculty of Education in the Primary and Junior division from the University of Windsor in Ontario. I have also received my Bachelor’s degree in Arts and Social Sciences with a concentration in English and Communication Studies. I have done my placements at Southwood Public School in a Kindergarten classroom and David Maxwell Public School in a split grade 3/4 class and a grade one class. Through my experiences in my placements I have gained valuable experience in classroom management and creating lesson plans that incorporate differentiating instruction. I have also volunteered for the past three years with Ms. Anne Martindale at the Dr. David Suzuki School and Concord Public School with students in grade one through three. Volunteering in split classes has taught me the importance of patience and organization as I have learned to create lesson plans and modify work for students in multiple grades in each subject. I have also volunteered with the book Buddy Program with the Windsor Public Library and have worked with the Taylor family for over three years. I have helped their eldest daughter improve her literacy and numeracy skills by using hands on manipultives such as creating a clock. I have used creative hands on manipulatives to make learning fun which I believe is achievable. While working as an Early Childhood Educator at Children’s Place I have learned to create lessons that provide all students with life skills that help them grow morally, socially, intellectually, and physically. I have learned to be patient with children and learned about their own individual needs whether it be a child who is excelling in literacy or a child that’s having their own internal struggle with leaving a parent. I have worked with kids who have ADD and ADHD when I volunteered at the Dr. David Suzuki School and Children\'s Place Daycare. I have also worked with a boy who had aspergers during my grade one placement at Teachers College. Lastly, I have worked at a GAINS classroom in Ontario during Teachers College which have a variety of special need students either in wheel chairs, children who are deaf and use sign language to communicate and severe autism where students can be aggressive and are non-verbal.
