I have the knowledge to create and implement lesson plans that are emergent, play-based and are developed based on observations I have made of the children’s interests. I am familiar with and have used the following guiding documents: How Does Learning Happen and Ontario’s pedagogy for the Early Years (2014). I have used them when observing and identifying skills for each age group and in my approach to creating an environment where the children experience belonging, well being, expression and engagement. My abilities include planning activities and selecting materials that will help the children learn how to express themselves verbally while promoting creativity. It also includes planning activities that help the kids develop good social skills by working together with each other and having good coordination skills. I am committed to creating a program that includes, inclusion, equity, diversity, and anti-racism. I have a real desire to work with children and the ability to make a connection with them and their families. I am enthusiastic and have the ability and patience to work with all children, including those differently-abled to ensure they are receiving the best of care. Above all else, I have the ability to help create a secure environment where the kids feel safe and the parents can rest easy knowing their children are in good hands. I have 10 years of experience through volunteering with various socio-economic statuses and children with diverse abilities and I also have experience volunteering in low-income, immigrant and refugee neighbourhoods as an advocate for change. Attending family court, assisting in moving and helping families to adjust when they leave the shelter and move into housing. Visitation at hospitals for newborn babies and assisting mothers when leaving the. I have tutored children and advocated for parents during school interviews.
