Early Childhood Educator in Holland Landing, Ontario

From September 2013 to May 2015, I was employed by Among Friends as the RECE in a kindergarten class for the before and after school program. I had an assistant with me, and I planned and implemented crafts and activities every week for which the students could engage in and enjoy. I also supervised the students while they were in the gym and outside. From October, 2014 to May 2015 I was a lunch supervisor at Devins Drive Public School in Aurora. I supervised students during their lunch period and while they were outside for recess. Furthermore,in July and August of 2014, I was a member of the support staff of Willowgrove Day Camp. My title was the Primary/Junior Division Head, and I was responsible for the well-being of the groups in these divisions. The campers in the primary groups are between the ages of 3-5, and the campers in the junior groups are 6-7 years of age. I supported the counsellors of this division in their daily work, and furthermore, I was involved in planning weekly special events for these divisions to enjoy. For several months while I was a supply staff for York Child Development, I worked with an 11-year-old boy with autism. He is non-verbal and needs constant supervision. He is a high-needs boy with violent tendencies. My job was to keep him happy, comfortable and engaged in activities. In one of my placements, I was in a kindergarten class and I worked with a boy who had Asperger's. I helped him with his school work and other skills in which he was falling behind. I also worked as a camp counsellor. One summer I worked with a boy who has Down Syndrome, and I assisted him in participating in the activities with the other children as well as boosting his confidence.
