Early Childhood Educator in Calgary, Alberta

I hold a Bachelor of Arts, English and History and a Bachelor of Education, Primary-Elementary and completed three courses in Special Education post-graduation. I have regularly substituted in grades K-6, special needs, and pervasive needs. Since I have graduated, I have had a five-month replacement in grade four with a diverse group of students. During this period I conducted parent-teacher interviews, completed report cards, planned hands-on and engaging daily lessons, collaborated with teachers, evaluated students, attended various professional development sessions, and had experience with guided/levelled reading. My time working as a group leader at a sleep-away summer camp has also prepared me for the social aspect of schooling, and how to teach students to practice respect, kindness, teamwork, and integrity. I have had group leader training sessions with a nationally-recognized child therapist, Bob Ditter, in which I learned methods for encouraging positive behaviour within children. My charismatic and energetic personality was strengthened by time at Tyler Hill Camp, and I love bringing that energy into a classroom. I have regularly substituted over the past two years with children with Special Needs. I have worked as an in-class support, and have also taken small groups to work with. Additionally, I have experience substituting with children with pervasive needs.
