Early Childhood Educator in Calgary, Alberta

I am Sophie, an elementary education student at the University of Calgary with several years of experience in early childhood education. I am based in Calgary, Alberta and am looking for a new opportunity in the field. I have worked in childcare in the past, Over the summer, I was one of 3 summer program leaders at my hometown's daycare, in this position I planned daily themed activities, went on field trips, and worked with the other teachers to create a fun, educational, safe environment for the kids. Last year, I spent a couple months working for the Dalhousie out of School Care Program, where I was a door monitor. In this position, I was the first face students and parents saw when they dropped off their kids, so I would greet them, and take students to their classroom, and then after school, I would pick up students from their class when their caretaker came to pick them up. This enhanced many skills, such as forming connections with students I only saw briefly each day, communicating with parents, and relaying messages from parents to teachers. I spent my Grade 11 year running an elementary school's before and after school program through the same daycare. This experience taught me so much about planning activities, providing care, and effective forms of discipline. Another opportunity I had was teaching kid's yoga classes, where I learned how to create a safe, welcoming environment for my students to try new and unfamiliar things. All of these experiences taught me a lot about myself and what I want to do with my life. I love working with children of any age and I believe that we can learn just as much from them as they can from us. I'm currently in my second year at the University of Calgary, I'm available anytime on weekends and wednesdays, I'm available before 2:30 on mondays and fridays, and I am available after 5:00 on tuesdays and thursdays.
