Early Childhood Educator in Etobicoke, Ontario

As an early childhood educator, I see my role is to foster the development of the children by providing endless learning opportunity to understand and explore the world around them. Therefore, I believe in providing children with an environment which is developmentally appropriate, encourage critically thinking, stimulate children’s natural curiosity and help them to make their own discoveries so that they can learn about the world around them.I understand how important is to build on existing knowledge of the children and providing “challenges that are responsive to individual capabilities to help children extend the boundaries of their learning” (Ontario Ministry of Education [OME], 2014, p. 37). Therefore, I recognise scaffolding children’s learning is vital which Vygotsky also talks about, as it opens up new learning opportunities and “children are more likely to engage in creative problem solving and more complex play and inquiry” ([OME], 2014, p. 35). Therefore, I am mindful to provide experiences which are developmentally appropriate and at the same time are challenging for the children to take their learning to the next level form known to unknown. The teaching experience which I gained motivates me to bring my resilience, devotion and creativity to my teaching. Though short but, the experience I gained working as an ECA supply exposed me to a variety of working environment and helped me acquire the skill to adapt in various situation. While working as a Law Clerk Assistant, I enhanced my organisation and communication skills. I also bring two years of teaching experience from back home where I taught visual arts to grades 1 to 8. During my placement, I have worked with Infants and Preschoolers. With Infants, I was appreciated for learning the routines of children very quickly and the promptness to take initiatives. With preschoolers, I was praised for setting a connection with children, redirecting them and again for taking initiatives. I have also gained immense knowledge about developing lesson plans according to the interest of children. Also, have a hands-on experience of implementation and how to mould plans on the spot when required.
