Early Childhood Educator in Calgary, Alberta

I did work experience in high school in a grade one classroom working as an EA in 2008 and 2009. I also did a practicum at Renfrew educational services and providence in 2010 and 2011, where I worked as a PTA but gained expereince within a couple different classroom doing EA responsibilities. In 2012 I moved to China for 6 months where I taught English in a classroom setting to children who were 2-7 years old and had varying abilities and needs. I have also baby sat a young boy with Autism for 3 years. I posses a degree in Community Rehab and Disability Studies which I obtained from the University of Calgary, as I was gaining this degree I took a variety of courses that helped form my passion of working with children in a classroom or community setting. These courses included: practice for children with special needs and their families, Inclusive education, addressing challenging behaviours in a classroom, adapting curriculum and instruction in grades k-12, integrating arts into rehabilitation, understanding children with autism spectrum disorders and introduction to assessment planning and intervention. As well as completing a practicum for the Children\'s Link Society where I did research that involved parents of children with disabilities as the research participants. This research helped me to further understand some of the struggles a family can have when they have a child with a disability and the supports the children and families need to improve their quality of life and well-beng. Although I did research for the Children\'s Link Society I was also involved in the organizations information fairs for parents of children with disabilities. All of these courses and expereinces taught me about working with children with special needs and their families. I also have a diploma in Physical Therapy Assisting as I was obtaining this diploma I did a practicum at Renfrew Educational Services and Providence (Early Educational Services for children with disabilities) where I did activities with children in 1 on 1 and in large group settings that worked on the children\'s gross motor skills, in active game settings.
