Early Childhood Educator in Markham, Ontario

While I have helped out with multiple camps in the past, I also recently assisted with summer camps for children with special needs in 2014 and 2015 at 1to1 Therapy Services. In 2014, I assisted in a summer camp that targeted speech sound disorders for a group of 15-20 children. In addition to supervising sports, games, reading circles, arts and crafts, I modeled speech sounds and provided feedback to children, under supervision from speech-language pathologists.\r\n\r\nI assisted at a 1to1 Therapy Services summer camp again in 2015. Many of the children had autism, several children had Down\'s syndrome, while others had physical disabilities. The groups consisted of 5-10 children. The camp focused on improving social communication. I prompted the campers, encouraging them to initiate and maintain conversations among one another, give and receive compliments, take turns, and compromise in decision-making.\r\n\r\nBetween 2013 and 2016, I was also a research assistant at Queen\'s University in a developmental psychology lab working with child participants. I ran experimental sessions and liaised with the children\'s families. Many of the children in the 1to1 Therapy camps had autism spectrum disorders or Down syndrome. I aided in supervising the campers, as well as behaviour management and learned from the behaviour therapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists present.
