Early Childhood Educator in Embrun, Ontario

While in school I worked with school age children before and after school. I was responsible for following the programming of the supervisor. I would set up tables for games, puzzles, art and playdough/Plasticine, a block area, and a writer\'s corner. I would take the children to the gym to play and take them outside as well. Presently I work with toddlers. Being out in the rural area my employer tries to fulfil the needs of the cliental as much as possible. Therefore; my classroom is licensed for children aged 12 months to 2 years. I am presently the head teacher with two staff. I am responsible for weekly programming, and setting up my room to meet the developmental needs of each child. In my room I have a dramatic centre, reading corner, tables for fine motor play, area for gross motor play, music, and science once a week. I interact with the children as well as observe them while they are at play. Through the observation I take what I have noticed and try to incorporate it into my programming. I assist in finding new and fun activities to bring in such as yoga and kindermusik. I welcome new children and frist time parents into my classroom. I find this a crucial time as it is a new experience for both mom/dad and child and adjustment takes time. I do my best to help the parents feel comfortable and to let them know that they can come to me anytime with any concerns they may have. I help with maintaining children\'s files by filing items that I receive from the parents. I do diapering and toilet training. I supervise during snacks and lunch to ensure the children are eating a little bit of everything and also learning proper behavior and social behavior at the table. I also help to supervise on field trips.
